The lack of humid winds, blocked by the Andes mountains , the altitude, the continental climate, the heterogeneity of the soils and the snowmelt are determining factors in the production of premium wine.

Agronomist Engineer
JUAN ARSAC
Juan Arsac is Antigal’s agronomist engineer. His job is to make sure that the grapes on the vine are well-tended and flourish into their best selves. Juan and his vineyard team rigorously study the soils, slope and elevation of our estate vineyards to determine the best location for each of our grape varieties. They shepherd the fruit from bud break to harvest to reinforce our philosophy that great wine starts in the vineyard.
LOCATION: Gualtallary - Tupungato - Uco Valley, Mendoza.
ALTITUDE: 1100 m.a.s.l. (3900ft).
SOIL: Light, deep soils; with little moisture retention in the vineyard except for a layer of carbonates at depth that varies from sector to sector.
IRRIGATION: Drip irrigation, water wells from pure snow melt from the Andes Mountains. Average annual rainfall 177.8 mm (7 inches).
YEAR OF PLANTATION: 2003.
PROFILES AND SOIL CUTTING:
LOCATION: La Arboleda - Tupungato - Uco Valley - Mendoza.
ALTITUDE: 950 m.a.s.l. (3400 ft).
SOIL: Deep soils with variable textures, from sandy to clay loam with generally good water retention capacity.
IRRIGATION: Large reservoir, water wells from pure snow melt from the Andes Mountains. Average annual rainfall 177,8 mm (7 inches).
YEAR OF PLANTATION: 2003.
PROFILES AND SOIL CUTTING:
LOCATION: Russell - Maipú Oasis, Mendoza.
ALTITUDE: 750 m.a.s.l. (2800 ft).
SOIL: The vineyard has about 0,3-0,5 mt (0.98 - 1.64 ft) of a first layer of clay loam soil, with silt content in its conformation and a great tendency to compaction. Below, we find stones from 0,05 to 0,3 mt (0.16 - 0.98 ft) long in its main axis surrounded by medium sized particles of fine sand and fine particles of clay.IRRIGATION: Drip irrigation, surface river water. Average annual rainfall 240 mm (9.45 inches).
